Each month, CrossFit Kuleana spotlights a member at our box who has shown great dedication to their health and fitness journey.  Today we are talking with Summer G. Shelverton. Shelverton has been with CrossFit Kuleana for two months and she is “well on her way” to achieving her goals.  Hello Summer!  Thank you for taking the time to tell us a bit about yourself and your fitness goals!

What were your goals when you started?

To lose weight!

A worthy goal and from what I understand, you are well on your way. Are there any other goals you are focusing on regarding health and fitness?

It’s more than just losing weight now — it’s getting stronger, and healthier, which incorporates eating the right foods and building muscle and endurance. I am starting to also set specific exercise and strength goals for myself that I didn’t know to set before.

CrossFit Kuleana is great at expanding our understanding of what it means to have a healthy life.  It sounds as if your goals have expanded.  What were you mostly focused on before finding Kuleana?

Dieting, many different types.

Oh yes, the dieting merry-go-round!  I think we have all been there at one time or another.  Is there something about CrossFit Kuleana that keeps you coming back?

The Camaraderie and support of everyone.

What are your favorite exercises?

Push Press.

What is your favorite type of WOD?

EMOMs!

How has CrossFit Kuleana affected you outside the gym?

I just generally feel better about myself — I’m losing weight, feel healthier and more energetic, and happier. I have noticed my stress level, or at least my ability to cope with stress, has gotten much better too.

That is terrific to hear!  I am really glad you have had a change in your weight, but also stress levels!  Terrific.  I know there are many folks who are a bit afraid of CrossFit.What would you say to people who are afraid to try CrossFit?

Don’t be. As someone who has not exercised regularly for more than 10 years, and was never particularly athletic, it took a lot of courage for me to even show up the first day. But now I find myself actually looking forward to the workouts, and really like the people and the support. If anyone is on the fence, I would strongly encourage you to try it!
