I was excited, scared, nervous, and even shameful but finally ready to make a change. In all honesty I thought I was going to fail within the first week. I received so much support and advice from other members and from the coaches at CrossFit Kuleana. I learned to mentally prepare and work to make changes for my body and my health. I have truly been inspired. Everyone was so willing to help me out and continued to encourage me. It made me want to keep on going. I have so much more energy throughout the day and I sleep so much more soundly now. Overall, this experience has been life changing and I have truly been inspired I am so excited for the changes that I have made, continue to make, and will be making.

In 2003, I was diagnosed with type two diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It scared me to be on so many medications so I was able to lose 60lbs and was taken off of them. In 2007 I broke my back. It was so bad I could not stand without being in excruciating pain. It took 5 years before I got my back surgery. I worked out at home and kept working on my diet. I was able to lose another 40lbs. A co-worker of mine kept bugging me to check out CrossFit Kuleana. My thoughts were, “Yeah right, I am defiantly not in any condition to do CrossFit”. I was scared and nervous, I figured I would make a fool out of myself but i decided to try it any way.

The first time I came to Crossfit Kuleana, I instantly felt welcomed, everyone was so nice. I started elements on 5/12/2014, I felt nervous and intimidated once again, but I put my feelings aside and pushed through. The coaches were excellent in explaining the importance of form and safety. After elements I of course signed up for 12 sessions per month. The workouts are always challenging and the best part is if I can’t do something I scale the workout down to what I can do. There is absolutely no shame in doing so either. I find myself pushing harder, especially with all the support and encouragement from the coaches and everyone that attends the box. I feel myself getting stronger and more toned. I know I’m improving and I’m working toward a better version of myself. I have currently signed up for unlimited access to the gym. It’s really hard to stay away. I’m so enthusiastic about Crossfit Kuleana, I tell anyone that will listen about it. I’m beginning to gain more confidence. I’m extremely excited about things to come in my fitness and health. Thanks to Crossfit Kuleana for directing me in the right direction.

When I joined the CrossFit Kuleana Ohana one year ago, I had no idea the life changing effect it would have on me. After years spent in the gym doing a lot of cardio and eating a low-fat diet, I was getting no where and I knew that I needed a change. I enrolled in CFK’s Elements course in May 2014 and immediately fell in love with not only the workouts, but all of the coaches and the true sense of Ohana I felt when I was there. I started seeing changes in my body and just an overall feeling of strength and accomplishment. My proudest moment since joining CFK was achieving 3rd place overall female in the CFK’s 2015 Look Better Naked Challenge. During this 9-week nutrition/fitness challenge, I learned so much not only from my coaches but also from my fellow teammates.

I am so grateful from everyone at CFK. Because of the support I have received, I have not only grown stronger physically, but mentally as well. I know my potential is unlimited and I can’t wait to see what the next year holds with CFK.

I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. At my heaviest I weighed 243lbs, keep in mind I am only 5’7”. Since that time, I tried about every magic weight loss pill/drink/supplement and weight loss/exercise program you can think of to lose weight. Truth be told, by just exercising more, I was able to gradually lose some weight, but I was still unhappy with my body’s appearance. Even after CrossFitting for several years, I felt like I plateaued and still did not achieve my fitness and weight goals.

That’s where CrossFit Kuleana came in. Two weeks in, I really started to notice changes. Instead of being zapped after a tough workout, I’d be anxious to hit the beach or do another workout at home. I ended up losing a total of 22 pounds and about 5 inches from my waist. I feel great!

It was such an eye opener to realize how important eating clean is. Most importantly, I don’t feel like I’m dieting any more. Eating clean is just….eating.

If any of you out there are in the same boat I was in, I encourage you to give Crossfit Kuleana a try. I’ve been to quite a few Crossfit affiliates in the past and Kuleana is special. The members and coaches welcome and support you from day 1. They help you with all aspects of health, not just the workouts and technique, but with recovery, physiology, and nutrition too. Did I mention the social gatherings? I can’t say enough about this group of people and I thank all of the coaches, owners, and members. You’ve given me the gift of health and confidence and I am forever grateful. Mahalo Team Kuleana!

After a long unsuccessful struggle with working out and trying to eat healthy, I knew it was time to try something different. When I joined Crossfit Kuleana in August 2013, I had no idea what a life-changing experience it was going to be. I knew that crossfit wasn’t going to be easy but from my very first WOD, the CFK coaches and family were so encouraging and supportive. The feeling of accomplishment and confidence I got after finishing my first WOD had me hooked and even though I was incredibly sore, I couldn’t wait to come back for more. In just a short time, I started to see changes in my body and I started to get more comfortable and confident with the different movements.

Whether I’ve had a lousy day at work or I’m just plain exhausted, I always leave CFK with a smile on my face and I feel much better than when I arrived.

In October 2014, I had continued to improve but I was still struggling with my nutrition. I had tried low fat, low carb diets but I didn’t have enough energy to get through the day Finally, I asked the coaches for some advice. Along with my workouts, I started eating clean. Almost immediately, I had more energy and I was sleeping better. With the support of the CFK coaches and family, I have lost over 40 pounds and 24 inches! Not only do I look and feel better, I am stronger and much more confident. My greatest accomplishment so far has been achieving 2nd place in the Kuleana In Motion 2015 Look Better Naked contest.

I am sad to have to leave CFK in November but I will be forever grateful for what I have learned from all of my coaches and teammates. I will never forget the love and support they have given me.
